Who Is Jason Boyce, and What Is Avenue7media?

I am the founder and CEO of Avenue7Media and co-author of The Amazon Jungle: The Truth About Amazon, The Seller’s Survival Guide for Thriving on the World’s Most Perilous E-Commerce Marketplace.

I will be the host of the Day 2 Podcast to share my 20 years of experience and expertise on how to survive and thrive on the world’s largest eCommerce platform.

My Story: From US Marines to Amazon Top Seller

My entrepreneurial journey started when I finished a tour of duty with the Marine Corps and, together with my adoptive brothers, got into eCommerce. 

Initially, we were selling basketball hoops online at SuperDuperHoops and wanted to create a brand of fun products that reflected our family values. 

We quickly grew our brand from $100,000 to $1million in one year. That was way back in 2003. Right about this time, Amazon was diversifying its offering and was looking for partners in different categories. That’s when they called us and asked us to sell our products on their platform. 

Soon enough, we realized that Amazon wasn’t interested in our growth. Amazon was solely focused on growing its eCommerce platform to be the biggest in the world. 

If this meant crushing some sellers along the way with policy changes and platform upgrades -nothing stopped them.

That’s the main reason why many sellers fail on Amazon and leave traumatized by the experience.

But our story had a happy ending. Through a lot of trial and error, I learned to navigate through all the changes and competition to emerge as a TOP 200 Seller on the world’s biggest eCommerce platform.

I then made an exit but realized many entrepreneurs were looking for answers on how to navigate the Amazon Marketplace.

This was the birth of Avenue7Media.

But I am not doing it alone. I have partnered with an incredibly experienced leadership team to help entrepreneurs navigate this complex marketplace. 

Our president, Dale Dabbs, led a $640 million exit on a hugely successful brand, and other Ave7 leadership team members had their own successes. 

Why You Need to Start with Your Origin Story

It’s crucial to be able to tell your story if you want to build a successful brand. 

Modern consumers don’t want to just buy a product – they have a myriad of brands to buy from. They want to know the story behind your brand and they want to relate to your story.

Unfortunately, many entrepreneurs skip this critical first step. They feel uncomfortable telling their story or don’t know how to tell it. 

But I usually advise them to just be authentic and raw and tell it as it is. This is what customers are yearning for. They will connect with you on a much deeper level once they get to know you. 

In my book, The Amazon Jungle, I share a deeply personal, painful story of my childhood memories. I want you to know it’s okay to share your story as you develop your brand. 

Once you are able to tell your brand story on Amazon and connect with consumers, you find it easy to do the same elsewhere. It doesn’t matter if it’s Shopify, Walmart, or any other platform (even brick and mortar).

How to Succeed in an Increasingly Competitive Marketplace

One question that we hear a lot here at Avenue7Media is whether it’s still possible to grow a brand on Amazon with all the competition.

The answer is a resounding YES.

Whether a newcomer or an established brand, you cannot afford to ignore Amazon. Consumers prefer Amazon and are searching directly for products on the platform. 

Once you ‘get’ Amazon, you can dominate everything else. Because it is the most complex and sophisticated eCommerce platform.

With the right strategies, you can launch and grow a brand to dominate this marketplace and others. 

One of these strategies is to differentiate your brand from the rest by providing a better value proposition to your customers.
