Amazon is a highly competitive marketplace, and many businesses rely on Amazon agencies or consultants to navigate the complexities of the platform and grow and scale their business.

However, not all agencies and consultants are created equal.

Some may make unrealistic promises or use manipulative tactics to secure your business, while others may lack the necessary expertise or experience to deliver results.

Finding the right agency or consultant can be a challenge. From slick brochures that oversell and underdeliver to outright hucksters who are out to fleece clients, the risks of hiring the wrong partner are high.

In this episode, Shannon and I discuss the top 10 red flags that may indicate a less than a reputable partner.

“A long time ago, you could hire a kid out of college and make them your Amazon expert over time. Those days are long gone. So much goes into success on Amazon because there are 2 billion products and millions of sellers.”

Track Record for Success

When hiring an agency or consultant, it’s important to look for someone with a proven track record of success. If a potential partner can’t provide examples/case studies of their past work or doesn’t have any experience in your industry, it may be a sign that they’re not the right fit for your brand. Look for partners who have a deep understanding of the Amazon ecosystem and your industry to ensure that you get the best possible results.

“Any agency/consultant who says they can guarantee page one results in Amazon is just the biggest red flag because it is an algorithm that you do not have proprietary access to”

Shannon Roddy

Overpromising and underdelivering

If an agency or consultant promises the moon but can’t deliver results, it’s a major red flag. Look for partners who set realistic expectations and have a track record of delivering on their promises. Don’t be swayed by flashy presentations or exaggerated claims – a reputable partner will be upfront about what they can and can’t do for your brand.

Unrealistic Pricing

If an agency or consultant’s pricing seems too good to be true, it probably is. Be wary of partners who offer rock-bottom pricing, as they may not be providing the level of service and expertise you need. Remember that you get what you pay for, and investing in a reputable partner is worth the cost in the long run. On the other hand, higher prices don’t necessarily mean better results.

Hiring an Amazon agency or consultant can be a game-changer for your business, but it’s crucial to do your research and choose your partner carefully. These are just some red flags Shannon and I discuss in this episode. Tune in for more!
